Q: Explain about the importance of the services of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan for the Muslims of sub-continent which was the most important service.  

Sir Syed Ahmed Khan served the Muslims nation with the help of his education political, social, and religious. His educational services are very important because Muslims got modern education learned English and became competent enough to deal with Hindu propaganda against Muslims and to satisfy the British government to get good jobs. This step was very helpful to raise Muslim social status, uplifted them economically. This also enabled them to communicate with British at equal level and convinced them that Muslims were not the enemies of British. So, they also deserve equal respect in the society. He establishes school and collages at Murdabad and Ghazipur which helped Muslim students to get admission in the modern and free schools which was not only helping them to learn English but also gave them the knowledge of their religion and cultural values. Main aim of Sir Syed was to educate new generation on modern lines to make them capable and competent future leaders of Muslims of sub content. Many of his students became the real leaders afterwards and played an important role for Muslims rights excepted from the government. In this way educational services enlighten Muslims that they must get educated and develop positive relations with the British. Alarge number of Muslims followed him and relations between British and Muslims improved.

Sir Syed wrote a pamphlet named” Cases of Indian revolt 1857”. In which he explained that the war fought against the British was not due to Muslim's enmity against British government but it was because of the wrong British laws. British banned Parda and Satee which was against Indian religion and culture. British also introduce missionary school which forced Indian children to convert to Christianity. It was not acceptable for Indians. British also introduced Cow and Pig fat cartridges to Muslims and Hindus which was considered as the conspiracy. Cow was secred for Hindus and Pig was haram for the Muslims. When they were forced to chew those fats used as seal of the cartridges they picked their arms against British government. It was an important effort as British government realize that if they wanted to rule sub-continent for the longer time they must not interfere in the Indian religion and culture.

Sir Syed worked for the religious uplift also. He wanted to develop a religious understanding between the British and the Muslims. He translated the holy Quran in English, because he wanted the British government to understand and purity message of Islam. He also convinced British that Holy Quran and Bible are the divine books and are similar as divine books. This step really helped to bridge the gap between Muslims and British. These books played an important role to clarify the misunderstandings which was developed against Prophet s.a.w. British were convinced that Islam and Christianity are very similar ideologically closer to the British community than others. British started trusting Muslims more than before.

As a sum up it can be said that the learning of English language was the most helpful effort which supported Muslim leaders to communicate successfully to British and these leaders could work for Pakistan movement for the coming years.
