Afghan Miracle

 Q: Explain about Afghan Miracle?

Ans: The soviet Afghan war of 1979 had an immediate impact on the international relations of Pakistan. Now Zia was a leader of a Muslim nation of the front line against the communal forces of oppression. The west provided Pakistan with unconditional economic and military support to establish Pakistan as the base of anti-soviet activities. These lead huge sums of money being powered into Pakistan to pay for the rehabilitation of refugees and to develop Pakistan army. As a result, Zia was able to build up an effective military force with Karachi as the best naval base in the region.             Pakistan was also able to sell military assistance to other Muslim countries. The influx of funds allowed Zia to undertake a degree of economic reforms. He denationalized many companies and the few that remained nationalized were made more effective. Laws were passed in favor of investors and the annual growth in the GDP was 6.2% the highest of the world. The "Afghan Miracle" refers to the unexpected, successful resistance of Afghan mujahideen fighters against the Soviet Union during the 1979–1989 Soviet-Afghan War. Despite being outmatched by a superpower, Afghan forces used guerrilla tactics, local terrain knowledge, and international support to force a Soviet withdrawal.

The USSR invaded to support a communist government, but faced widespread popular opposition. The mujahideen utilized rugged terrain for guerrilla warfare and received covert aid from the US (Operation Cyclone), Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. The war resulted in significant Soviet military losses (roughly 15,000 dead), weakened the USSR economically, and contributed to its eventual dissolution.

The Soviet troops completed their withdrawal on February 15, 1989, allowing Afghanistan to return to a nonaligned status, although it led to further internal conflict. This event is considered a "miracle" by historians because it defied expectations of a quick Soviet victory, showcasing remarkable resilience and strategic acumen of Afghanies and their supporter nations.
