Simon commission 1927
Q: Why did Simon commission came to
India in 1927 and why was it rejected?
Ans:
Simon commission to India to get the opinion of India public for the formation
of the new constitutional reforms of India. They also wanted to show to the
public that British Government wanted to show the Indians for their cooperation
in the First World War. A lot of movements
were also going on in India against the government after First World War. So,
the commission aimed to ask directly the demands of the
public cutting the Politician's aside. British government wanted to compensate to
the Indian public for the harsh laws and forced in the country in the previous
years. For example Rowlatt act. In this manner India public could get better
laws and could cooperate with the government in a better manner.
Indians rejected the Simon commission
with the words. “Simon Go Back”. It showed that Indian were so much annoyed by
the British that even they did not want to negotiate with them. Indians also
wanted to show that the solutions of Indian political problems were not merely
by forming the laws, and implementing those laws in such a manner which was
just a show off. For example the law of diarchy provided unlimited powers to
the governs in the provinces who started all politicians getting diverted from public welfare to the pleasure of the governor. Diarchy diverted all politicians from public welfare works. Indians
wanted self-rule in their provinces according to majority of the communities to
live according to their religion and culture. It was the time when British
government was badly mistrusted due to the breaking of promises after First
World War, killing of Indians Amritsar tragedy, and Rowlatt act etc. This was
the reason Indian rejected Simon Commission.
