NEHRU REPORT (REJECTION)
NEHRU REPORT (REJECTION)
Q. WHY WAS NEHRU
REPORT REJECTED 1928?
ANS: Nehru Report was rejected by Muslims
because the reforms referred demanded in this reforms were totally against Muslim
interests i.e Immediate Dominion status meant the independent rule of the whole
subcontinent in the hands of the Hindus who were in majority and Muslims had no
hope that Hindus would share their authority with Muslims.
Demand of a
joint electorate was a killing blow for the separate identity of Muslims. It
meant that as there would be less Muslim representations and no laws could be
made according to the religion and culture and culture of Muslims so Muslims
would become unsafe in their own country.
Congress
had reversed the rules accepted in the Lucknow pact 1916. Same way even if
demand was made for separation of Sindh from Bombay but it still was against
Muslims as its real demand was that after separation, Sindh would have to bear
its own expenses. After the Nehru Report Muslims even left their last hopes on
Congress.
