Languages of Pakistan

Q1: The promotion of regional language in Pakistan between 1947–1999 has been more successful than the promotion of Urdu? Do you agree? Explain your answer?

A1: Regional languages are specially taken care after the establishment of Pakistan as these were totally neglected during the last whole century. The promotion of Punjabi is seen in the establishment of Punjabi as an elective subject in the college and teaching the poetry of Sufis and romantic poetry to the new generation. Same way rest of the regional languages i.e. Pashto, Sindhi and Balochi are also declared the provincial languages and at college level the elective subject has been taken as the ancient Sufi ideas, romanticism and social issues to the next generation. Detailed research work is done about each regional language at the university level when it is declared at Masters degree level language. This has added a lot of research material, ideas, explanations and references in these languages and increased the literary value of the regional languages. The importance of promotion is further valued by the establishment of language departments, in the provincial languages and university libraries. Same way dictionaries of all provincial languages are also written and published which has increased the authority of these languages.

Radios and TV stations are established since the establishment of Pakistan. There are broadcasting programs of these languages of Pakistan which is not only making these languages more understandable and serving the local farmers and common men to understand information and concepts in a better way. In this manner if the promotion of the provincial/regional languages compared with their previous times, this is the most golden time after the establishment of Pakistan when these languages are promoted on modern times and in organized manner.

Regional languages are greatly valued and taken care by Pakistani government being the provincial language of the country. These language are taken as the elective subjects of colleges, competitive exams and as MA level of university. A lot of research work and newspaper, magazines, literature work has added up great value to this language. Authentic dictionaries, radios and TV stations, broad casting and telecasting have set up standard for these languages. There are many associations also established for the promotion of these languages like Suchal Sarmust Academy, Association for the development of Pushto etc. These are organizing activities, poets and writers for better material of these languages.

All official records and history of the country is also written in regional languages, in this manner next generation can understand and know about their history easily with the help of their native languages. In this manner these languages have not only recorded the history of this country but also transferred it to next generations.

Urdu have been the most developed language as it has always been taken care and it played an important role in Pakistan movement it was already a modernized language but as provisional languages did not get enough good care before the establishment of Pakistan these were more backward. After the establishment of Pakistan the ratio of development of regional languages remained higher as compare to national language.
