Establishment of the Muslim league

Q: Why was Muslim League established in 1906?

A: Muslim League was established by young Muslim leaders to counter the negative propaganda of Congress against Muslims. When Viceroy Minto accepted the demands of Muslims related to separate electorate system,1/3rd seat of the Government and share in the jobs, Muslim became encouraged and confident that if they had their own political parties they could better represent Muslim community in the subcontinent. At the first meeting of the Muslim League, in December 1906, the leaders of the League declared that their objectives were to protect and advance the political rights and interests of Muslim needs and aspiration to the Indian government or the British. They would also promote the Muslim feelings towards loyalty to the British. From the time of 1857, Muslims had lived in hostility towards the British and Hindus due to their misunderstandings. Another aim of the League was to eliminate this hostility and misunderstanding, in order to make the sub-continent more peaceful.

It was also a problem that Congress has become a predominant Hindu organisation who showed their opposition of Muslims while the movement against the partition of Bengal. In 1906, at the 12th annual session of Muhammaden educational conference, at Dhaka, nawab uiqar-ud-din establishment of all India Muslim League. Establishment of Muslim League and some important objectives like to protect the politics rights and interest of Indian Muslims to the British government, to remove the misunderstanding between the Muslims and the British government showing the loyalty of the Muslims to develop good relationships between the Muslims and other communities of India.   British welcome the formation of Muslim League by their moderate and well communication. At this point British government had seen the aggressive behaviour of Hindus in congress against the decision of partition of Bengal. There was a need of political party in the subcontinent which could prove itself as the alternative of Congress and could present Muslims positively.
