Benazir Bhutto's Policies and Dismissal 1993 - 1996

Q. Explain how successful were the policies of public welfare and reasons of dismissal of Benazir Bhutto in 1993 to 1996

In 1993 elections Pakistan people party could form their second government under the partnership of Benazir Bhutto this time also in the government PPP had less seats in the parliament so they had to form a collision government with the help of other political parties. This time Farooq Ahmed Laghari was declared as President of Pakistan with unlimited powers of dismissal of parliament. Even if he had promised to end the Eighth amendment and restore the power of Prime Minister and parliament according to the original constitution but he did not do so after gaining the seat of president.

Benazir Policies focused on the social services Women rights and educational up lift .She also established the women police station and women banks some of his policies were internationally recognized and respected but inside the country she was unable to cope up successfully under the opposition by PMLN. There were constant strikes upon her for example train March internal family fights and internal party pressures could not let her continue the government successfully .Her own mother Begum Nusrat Bhutto turned against her in the mean while in September 1996 , Mir Murtaza Bhutto was suddenly killed by a police man and Benazir was held responsible for this Murder her brother while her husband Asif Ali Zardari was accused for massive corruption and political murders. This damaged her image badly  and her government was dismissed on 5th November 1996 by president Laghari.

She tried her best to end 8th amendment which had provided unlimited authority to the president but she could not because the number of votes required for the change in the law were not possible to collect by PPP in this effort of collection of votes against 8th amendment threatened President Laghari  Who used his power against her government and dismissed her government in 1996.

She was criticized at many points because she was in a critical position When she had to show her opposition against her Own brother and developed clashes with her mother and also faced the corruption charges on her husband Asif Ali Zardari . When Nusrat Bhutto favored Murtaza Bhutto she had to remove her mother from the leading position of Pakistan people party.Click Here
